07 Feb Montreal Grand Prix: Go Big or Come Another Weekend
The Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal is the biggest weekend of the year. The nightlife scene for F1 is beyond insane to the point where the festivities become the focal point of the weekend. If you are not coming for the race or with a large budget then it’s best to schedule your trip for another weekend. However if you are, here are some of the most important things to know for Montreal Grand Prix:
1. F1 is expensive
Aside from the$500 race tickets everything over Montreal Grand Prix weekend is very expensive. Formula 1 and its parties attract high rollers from all over the world. Basic hotel rooms sell for 400-500$ per night and bottles at the clubs double in cost. With our expertise you can find some value in all of the craziness, however this is not the weekend for deal seekers.
2. Hotels
Many of the hotels make 30-50% of their yearly revenue during Grand Prix weekend. This means that room rates are 2-3x more expensive than the usual high season rates. All of the best hotels demand a minimum 3-night booking along with a non-refundable payment in full. It is also very important to note that downtown hotels start selling out as early as February!
3. Restaurants and Clubs are slammed.
The best clubs for Grand Prix weekend are located on the St. Laurent strip and in the Old Port. Three of Montreal’s major streets are closed for the weekend (Crescent street, Peel street, and Saint Laurent Blvd) and the clubs and restaurants extend their patios onto the streets. The supper clubs are the crown jewel of the F1 nightlife. This is where you will see a mix of drivers, celebrities, and beautiful people go to party. Supper clubs notoriously overbook during F1 weekend, which is the least of your problems, because line-ups get so long that you can’t even get to the hostess in the first place. It is not uncommon for people with reservations to either get bumped to a horrible table or not get in at all.
4. The Montreal Grand Prix is the time of your life.
The high prices, expensive hotels, and limited availability all pale in comparison to the spectacle that is Grand Prix weekend. Simply put, it is the best weekend one can have if done right.
