HOW TO GET (LEGALLY) HIGH AT YOUR BACHELOR PARTY: CANNABIS IN MONTREAL

By Connected Montréal · Feb 8, 2026 · 10 MIN read

Canada fully legalized cannabis. Here's everything you need to know — the laws, the strains, where to buy, and a first-hand field report that went completely sideways.

Quick Summary

  • Quebec's legal cannabis age is 21, with a 30-gram personal carry limit.
  • SQDC government-run stores are the only legal retail option across Montreal.
  • Edibles and oral sprays can produce a 10+ hour high; start with one dose and wait 2-3 hours.

Legal Disclaimer

Connected Montreal does not provide or supply cannabis products. We do not condone the use of black market cannabis products. Legal cannabis products are only to be used and consumed in Canada. Consult your physician before using any cannabis products. The following experiences are purely anecdotal.

The Basic Laws

You must be over 21 to buy or consume in Quebec (raised from 18). You can't carry over 30 grams per person. You can't drive high. You can't smoke in smoke-free zones. And absolutely do not try to bring any cannabis products across the border — what happens in Montreal stays in Montreal.

Where To Buy

Cannabis in Quebec is regulated by the SQDC (Societe quebecoise du cannabis). These government-run stores are the only legal retail option. As of 2026, there are multiple locations across Montreal, and online ordering is available with 1-2 day shipping within Quebec. Edibles, beverages, and concentrates are all now available alongside dried flower and pre-rolls.

Cannabis Crash Course

The most important thing to understand is THC content — that's the psychoactive compound that determines how strong the effect is.

Sativa: The "head high" — energizing, uplifting, mentally stimulating. Good for daytime if you're experienced.

Indica: The "body high" — calming, relaxing, sleep-inducing. You'll find the nearest couch and not move.

Hybrid: A mix of both. Most products sold are hybrids.

CBD: Non-psychoactive. Known for anti-inflammatory benefits. Doesn't get you high but has genuine medical applications.

First-Hand Field Test: THC Spray

I took two sprays of a high-THC oral spray on an empty stomach at noon. An hour later, when I started tasting colors, I realized one spray would have been sufficient.

Productive work was immediately off the table. I headed to Schwartz's for smoked meat (skipped the line, obviously), then Uber'd to Jean Talon Market — arguably the best farmers market in North America. Pulled pork tacos, snow crab at the raw bar, cheese samples until they gave me dirty looks, and a pour-over coffee from a barista who definitely knew what was up.

Then I went home and listened to an audiobook for the rest of the day. The high lasted well over 10 hours. I am too old to be that high for that long.

Lesson learned: take one spray, wait 2-3 hours. For less than a dollar, I was high all day. Canada is not messing around with legalization.
